Quilt Ministry

12th Annual Quilt Show

2010 Winners of the 11th Annual Quilt Show

The FBC Quilt Ministry was started in 1999 by a long-time church member, Barbara Martin, and several other ladies who were encouraged to quilt with her. Any quilters in our communities or those who want to learn “hand-quilting” are welcome. Regular meetings take place in the Youth Building, first floor, on Tuesdays, 6:00 – 8:00 PM and Thursdays, 2:00 – 4:00 PM.

Our first objective is to give comfort and encouragement to our church members and others by giving them a lap-quilt to use as they may be in treatment, dialysis, wheel chair, rehab, nursing home, home bound or a new baby.  Each quilt has a label reminding them we care and are praying for them.

Second, we enjoy the fellowship and the opportunity to group quilt each others’ projects.  Our greatest satisfaction, however, comes from giving away the lap-quilts we’ve made for others.

The third objective is for out-reach to the community.  Any quilter may join our group to quilt, or to bring us a quilt-top to quilt for them for a fee, or to enter their quilt or come visit our facility for the Annual Quilt Show, usually held each year the second Saturday in November.

The most often asked questions concerning this ministry are:  ”Where do you get the money to operate?” and “What do you do with the funds you raise?”  We are self-supporting (not a part of the church budget).  However, our account is through the church.  We earn from quilting for the public and putting on the Annual Quilt Show.  Even though admission is free, our ticket sales for the give-away donation quilt and silent auction items generate cash.  This is used for our expenses and our cash donations.

Our expenses are fabric, equipment, supplies, putting on the quilt show, judges fees, advertising, and signs.  The cash remaining after expenses are paid are donated to the Building Fund, House of Hope, memorials, other churches, benevolence, or Lottie Moon offering.  Our cash donations have averaged from $1000 – $2000 each year.  We would love to have you be a part of our ministry and Quilt Show this year!  Enter and/or come!  Contact the church for more information.
